Blackfriars is set within a 13th-century former Dominican friary in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Established in 1239 it remains the jewel of Newcastle’s medieval past and has a fascinating history. Over the years Blackfriars has expanded from the friar’s refectory dining room to almost all the remaining claustral out-buildings and today boasts a Banquet Hall, Parlour Bar, Cookery School and Tasting Room as well as a number of function/meeting rooms.
Blackfriars hosts an all-year programme of cookery classes, wine/whisky/beer tastings, wine dinners, hog roasts and history tours as well as weddings and private/corporate functions. The award-winning restaurant is listed in Hardens, the AA and Which Good Food Guides and have been awarded Taste of England awards.
See the Blackfriars website for further details on how to join.
